Emeritus Professor, Mildred Alali Amakiri, MFR(Member Federal Republic), is a Professor of soil science / soil microbiology and forestry.
She was Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State; and former Honourable Commissioner of Higher Education, Rivers State.
Prof. Mrs Mildred Amakiri is an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria; and attended the University of Davis USA, as a post Doctoral fellow in 1975.
In June 2018 she was inaugurated as the first female Emeritus Professor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology; emerging as the first in River State, and the fifth in Nigeria.
She is a member, or sits on the Board, of very many prestigious Academic, and Non Governmental Organisations, both local and international; including: Women, Environment and Development Organisation (WEDO); International Society of Tropical Foresters USA (1995 – 1998); Society of American Foresters, Washington DC; Third World Organisation for Women in Science; etc.
She is the first female Professor of Soil Microbiology in Nigeria, and the first female Professor of Forestry in Africa.
Prof. Mrs Mildred is cited in WHO IS WHO of women in education, 1981; WHO IS WHO of women in science, 1982; WHO IS WHO in Nigeria, 1999.
She is married to Prof. Sotonye Amakiri, and they are blessed with children.
